September 28, 2014. the commander of a mechanized company of the 93rd separate mechanized brigade, captain Sergei Kolodiy, came to the aid of his colleagues at one of the checkpoints. Breaking through the BMP-2 to the platoon's stronghold, he entered into battle with the enemy and died as a result of a gunshot wound, giving his subordinates a chance to withdraw from the battle and not be captured. In accordance with the decree of the President of Ukraine dated August 23, 2016 for personal courage, heroism, loyalty to the military oath, Captain Serhiy Kolodiy was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Order of the Golden Star (posthumously).
