During quarantine, many residents of Spain faced the fact that they did not find flour and yeast in their kitchens, which were not usually used so often in everyday cooking. Statistics have shown that the consumption of these two products this year was significantly higher than in the same period of the previous year.. The insulation turned out to be an ideal moment for mastering baking homemade bread and other flour products.

A large amount of time spent at home could not but affect the eating habits and culinary skills of residents from around the world. In addition, the stress and anxiety caused by the isolation and the crisis also had an impact on our diet and habits. All these changes are reflected in a study conducted by experts from the BCC Innovation Technology Department of the Basque Culinary Center. The purpose of the study was to identify new patterns of consumption and attitudes to food (food selection, cooking process, the importance of food-related issues and other criteria). The results of online surveys involving 600 consumers from all over Spain were published in the International Journal of Gastronomy and Food Science, notes espanarusa.

After the end of the isolation period, a high percentage of respondents stated their intention to cook at home more often, exercise more, follow healthy habits. More than 30% of respondents said that they started consuming less fish during quarantine, and 50% increased their consumption of sweets.. 56% of respondents said that they spend more time cooking. Many Spaniards consider themselves social eaters for whom the process of eating is the process of creating social bonds..

Respondents who consider themselves to be social eaters noted that during isolation they increased their consumption of snacks, snacks and instant foods. In addition, they began to eat more often and more. Many of them chose the item “I’m not in a very good mood lately, and this affects how and how much I eat”. 27% admitted the inverse relationship, saying they had a worse mood due to the fact that they consumed more snacks and instant foods, as well as overeating.
