The Supreme Commander-in-Chief of Moldova, Igor Dodon, signed a decree on the involvement of the National Army in quarantine activities in connection with the spread of coronavirus in the country.
The Ministry of Defense has introduced in Chisinau motorized units that will patrol the streets of the capital and other cities, as well as provide assistance to older people so that they do not have to leave their homes.
“The military will have to help the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the implementation of measures already taken to prevent the spread of the virus. This includes patrolling public places to ensure that social distance is maintained (meaning the self-isolation of older people or children), which is vital to prevent the spread of the pandemic and reduce the incidence of COVID-19 among socially vulnerable categories of citizens, ”said Dodon.
According to citizens, which they actively express on social networks, under quarantine the appearance of jeeps with machine guns has the opposite effect and is a panic among the population.
The Moldovan government has decided to tighten the regime under the current state of emergency caused by the epidemic of coronavirus infection, which will last until May 15. The country is in conditions of external isolation and internal quarantine. Starting March 25, restrictions will be introduced in municipalities and cities of the republic on the appearance of people in parks, recreation areas and other public places.
A day earlier, the head of state said that there was no need to draw an army, the Ministry of Internal Affairs was coping with the situation in the republic.
At the same time, Dodon admitted that perhaps the next stage in the fight against the spread of infection will be a ban on citizens leaving their homes.
Curfew has been imposed in neighboring Romania. Citizens forbidden to leave home from ten in the evening until six in the morning. Violators face a fine of up to five thousand Romanian lei (about a thousand euros). The rest of the time, you can go out only if people are sent to work or to buy groceries..
