The Antimonopoly Committee opened a case against Naftogaz

The Antimonopoly Committee began consideration of the case against Naftogaz Ukrainy on grounds of abuse of monopoly position in the natural gas markets.

It is reported by Ukrinform with reference to the press service of the AMCU.

According to the information provided by the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, Naftogaz set prices for industrial consumers that were higher than those established in a competitive environment, in particular, according to the results of electronic exchange trading on the Ukrainian Energy Exchange and on European hubs (Natural Gas Market, NCG - natural gas market.



The committee notes that this indicates that from November 1, 2018, Naftogaz set prices for natural gas for the population at a level that could not be established if there was significant competition in the natural gas markets.

The AMCU reminds that, according to the Cabinet’s regulation on imposing special duties, it is Naftogaz that sells natural gas to suppliers for the needs of the population. At the same time, the company sets prices in this market segment, which are based on the price for the industry proposed by the same company.
