Kharkiv woman Alena Osipova won the Deflimpiad - 2019

From December 12 to 21, the XIX Winter Deaflympics took place in Italian Lombardy, at which a Kharkiv woman won a gold medal in chess.

Kharkov region was represented by only one athlete at the Deaflympics, and she returned home with a gold medal, according to the Department of Youth and Sports of KHOGA.

In chess, which for the first time in history were presented at the Deaflympics, team competitions and blitz competitions took place. And if Alena stopped in the blitz a step from the podium, taking fifth place, then in team competitions she became a champion.

The women's team of Ukraine, which included Kharkiv and five more athletes from different regions, scored 33 points and won first place. Ukrainians half a point ahead of the Russian team, which became the second. The third place was taken by the Polish national team..



“We worried a lot, worked hard for this victory, we went a long way towards this, and now, I don’t believe that our first place”, shared Alena Osipova during a solemn meeting at the Kharkiv South Station with the Deputy Head of the Office for Affairs.

In total, at these Deaflympics, the Ukrainian team showed the best result in the entire history of participation in the Winter Deaflympics. On her account - 4 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze medals and the second place among 34 participating countries in the total number of awards and the third - in “gold”.
