More than 168 kg of coins instead of the usual bank transfer - this is how the mayor of a small town in the province of Brescia decided to pay the debt in protest against the state. “This is really a provocation, because I want someone from the ministry to come and see what it means to manage a small city away from the provincial capitals,” says the mayor. Among the many problems described by Erb are a catastrophic lack of qualified personnel. “We have only one part-time accountant who does not physically cope with accounting”.

“I cannot agree,” explains Paolo Erba, “that the government is punishing me in this way by asking me to report on expenses and revenues that I know even better than me, because this is information that the Ministry of Finance can easily find out on its own. In twenty days of delay I have to return a little more than a thousand euros. If the state wants this money - concludes the first resident of the small town of Brescia - let the minister come to the city to collect it. Bags of coins are ready "
