A group of French parliamentarians proposed a strategy to combat obesity until 2030. Its main principles are the fight against fast food and harmful additives in products, learning the basics of proper nutrition and the inclusion of vegetables and fruits in the diet of the French.

First, the deputies propose banning most of the additives that make dishes tastier and more durable (but not healthier): instead of the 338 species used now, it is proposed to leave 48. In addition, it is planned to limit the permissible salt content in products, since the French now eat twice as much salt as WHO recommends (10-12 grams daily instead of 5). First of all, it will affect bread, which accounts for more than 30% of salt in the diet of the French. The salinity of famous baguettes is limited to 18 grams of salt per 1 kilogram of flour (which is close to the traditional recipe, but cooks do not always adhere to this norm).

Secondly, parliamentarians propose to oblige suppliers to apply bright and clear labeling on all products in stores.. This label warns customers of high salt, sugar, added fat and other potentially harmful ingredients.. Since April of this year, this marking has already appeared, but so far it is not mandatory - manufacturers put it at will..

Thirdly, French deputies propose to introduce nutrition courses in general education schools and specifically train chefs who train in schools, hospitals and other public institutions.. These programs will tell not only about the harm and benefits of individual products, but also about why food is harmful to the environment..

Finally, the deputies want to give all French people the opportunity to eat enough fruits and vegetables, writes Europuls. To do this, you can enter special vouchers for vegetables and fruits for the poor.. All these proposals will be discussed in Parliament..

According to a study that was specifically commissioned by parliamentarians, now almost half of the adult population of France suffer from overweight (more than the EU average), and 15% of French people are obese..

In recent years, the French have become much more fast food, so in the future the problem promises to be even more serious..

Since 2014, the EU has a strategy to combat obesity in children, but assessing its effectiveness is still premature, experts say. As part of this strategy, school canteens use healthier ingredients and replace the buns in the menu with fresh vegetables and fruits.. Other measures include restrictions on the sale and advertising of food and drinks with “empty” calories in schools..
