Over the past 5 years, children in the Netherlands have been increasingly brought to school by parents on cars. Previously, these children were 26%, and now 30%, according to the research agency SOAB. And this is despite the fact that in recent years schools in the Netherlands have carried out campaigns in support of cycling for schoolchildren. According to the researchers, parents now bring children to school more often because there are more families where both parents work, and it is more convenient for them to leave the family with their family.
In addition, the road to school is an extra time when parents can communicate with children. But the schools themselves, as well as doctors are sure that it is more useful for children to get to school by bicycle or on foot - it is better for their health and the environment. Some Dutch schools introduce the Cycling4school promotion system: if a student gets to school by foot or by bicycle, he is awarded points. Students can spend these points on various entertainments organized by the school - for example, excursions or trips to museums.
