Experts of the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection will conduct exercises in the closed 30-kilometer Chernobyl zone in case of emergency at European nuclear power plants. The exercises will be held from 3 to 7 September under the scenario of a fictitious accident at a nuclear power plant, the German department.
26 employees of the German department will be divided into teams, equipped with protective suits and respirators, as well as measuring instruments. On foot and in cars they must move around the 30-kilometer zone and take measurements of the radiation exposure to the person at a particular point at a particular time after the simulated accident, as well as the level of radioactive contamination of the soil at various points in the exclusion zone. All data will be immediately transferred to the federal information collection center, where they will be processed and evaluated, reports Deutsche Welle.
