In Bangladesh, a photographer was arrested for supporting student protests

Bangladeshi police arrested photographer Shahidul Alam on August 5. On the eve of Alam gave an interview to the Al Jazeera channel, condemning attempts by the authorities of Bangladesh to suppress student protests that began in July. Soon after Al-Jazeera released an interview with Alam, about 30 policemen in civilian clothes burst into his house. The photographer was arrested for "provocative statements", which, according to the Bangladesh authorities, are detrimental to the image of the state.
