The police carried out searches at the Moscow Jewish religious community's office and found there prohibited anti-Semitic literature, the lawyer Igor Zuber told BBC.

According to Zuber, the searches were conducted in the framework of the verification of the leader of the Jewish movement Shahar, the Russian representative of the ruling Likud party in Israel, Alexander Kargin.

The lawyer noted that there has been a certain statement regarding Kargin, which is the basis for the verification.

"The search lasted an hour and a half.

Literature of various contents was confiscated. First of all, the nationalist. and of an anti-Semitic character. How can a Jewish leader have anti-Semitic literature - this is absurd. It is quite obvious that this literature was planted, "said Zuber.

He explained that so far no administrative or criminal case has been initiated, but the essence of the matter is not yet clear to the defense. Zuber also said that Kargin was summoned to the police to give explanations.
