The court in Cairo on Saturday, July 28, sentenced to death 75 members of the Islamist movement "Muslim Brotherhood", including a number of its leaders. They are accused of crimes during bloody protests that erupted after the overthrow of President Mohammed Mursi in 2013. 44 convicts are already under arrest, the rest are sentenced in absentia.

The judgment was sent to the Supreme Mufti of Egypt, who will study it and express its opinion, which, however, does not have binding force. The next court session on this case is scheduled for September 8. In total, more than 700 people are accused of involvement in illegal protests in August 2013 and related crimes, such as murder and vandalism.

During police clashes with protesters in Egypt in August 2013, according to the human rights organization Amnesty International, more than 800 demonstrators were killed. The authorities, in turn, report more than 40 dead policemen and claim that many of the protesters were armed.

Protests began after the overthrow of President Mohammed Mursi, part of the Muslim Brotherhood, the main political force of Egyptian Islamists. In September 2013, the movement was recognized illegal in Egypt, its property and property were confiscated. A few months later, the Egyptian government recognized the "Muslim Brotherhood" as a terrorist group. Murci was sentenced to three years in prison for discrediting the justice system.
