In Japan, six members of the extremist sect Aum Shinrik who were imprisoned after the execution of sect leader Seko Asahara.
As reported by NV with reference to Kyodo, they were found guilty of involvement in the attack using sarin gas in the Tokyo metro in 1995, another attack using sarin in Nagano Prefecture in 1994, and also the murder in 1989 of a lawyer, his wife and their little child.
Recall, on July 6, the head of Aum Shinrikyo Seko Asahara (real name - Tizuo Matsumoto) was executed, as well as several of his supporters.
In 2004, Seko Asaharu and 12 of his supporters were sentenced to death. Since then, they have been waiting for the execution of the death sentence. Lawyers tried to appeal the verdict and reached the Supreme Court, but he denied them an appeal.
In March 1995, sect members staged a terrorist attack in the Tokyo metro, spraying the nerve gas sarin. Then more than 10 people were killed, about another six thousand were injured.
The investigation into the Aum Shinrikyo members lasted more than 20 years. Almost 200 people were found guilty, and 13 of them were sentenced to death.
The religious sect Aum Shinrikyo was founded in Japan in the 1980s. Since its foundation, it has attracted many young supporters. Its numbers varied from 30 to 50 thousand people.
