July 9 at the 92nd year of life died five-time Olympic champion Hans Gunther Winkler (equestrian sport).

He was one of the most popular athletes of Germany in the 1950s and 1960s, notes newsru. co. il Hans Gunther Winkler is the only sportsman who took part in the Olympiads in six disciplines of equestrian sport.

He was a two-time Olympic champion in 1956 (the equestrian tournament was held in Stockholm, not Melbourne because of very strict control over the importation of animals to Australia), won the gold of the Olympiads in 1960, 1964 and 1972, the 1976 silver medalist in the Olympics and the bronze medal in 1968.
