For the second consecutive year, Portugal has been named "the main tourism destination" in Europe, having won the main nomination of the "tourist Oscar" - the World Travel Awards Europe 2018. In total, Portugal has won 36 awards - almost a third of the total number of nominations.

In addition to the main award, Portugal received the title of the "Main Tourist Bureau of Europe", Madeira was recognized as the "Best Island Direction", Lisbon - "Best City".

A number of key awards went to Greece. In the nomination "Best beaches" this year the Greek Peloponnese won, and "The best city for a short rest" is Athens.

The World Travel Awards are awarded annually since 1993. Winners are elected according to the results of voting by thousands of tourists and industry professionals. Such parameters as safety and level of development of the tourist infrastructure are taken into account.
