Starting from September 1, 2018, pedestrian zones will necessarily be designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine. It is noted that the Ministry of Regional Development is updating the state building standards, in particular, it introduces mandatory design of pedestrian areas on streets and roads, taking into account the needs of people with disabilities and other less mobile groups. "The relevant norm is contained in the new GOS B. 3-5: 2018 "Streets and roads of settlements", which will come into force on September 1, 2018, "it was informed.. Also, the mandatory creation of barrier-free space in pedestrian areas is also spelled out in the new GOS B. 2-12: 2018 "Planning and development of territories". In particular, according to it, the requirements for the design of public transport stops are expanded, taking into account their accessibility and awareness for people with disabilities and other low-mobile groups: tactile surfaces, sound pedestrian crossings and the like. "We must create a safe and comfortable space for all. These are the necessary requirements for creating a real barrier-free space in Ukraine and they will come into force already from September this year. For example, if a pedestrian crossing is a multilevel one, then it is necessary to equip ramps or elevators, regulated pedestrian crossings with traffic lights should have sound signals, "said Deputy Head of the Ministry of Regional Development Lev Partskhaladze.
According to the new GOS, the construction of pedestrian crossings will be carried out in the following way: the use of pedestrian crossing ramps or pedestrian crossings on a sidewalk or pedestrian crossing, or a pedestrian crossing at the same level as a sidewalk or carriageway; arrangement of adjustable pedestrian crossings with special sound signals; lowering the curb to the level of the carriageway on elevated security islands or ground pedestrian crossings; Arrangement of multi-level pedestrian crossings by elevators or ramps.
