An alternative award will be awarded on the same days as the Nobel Prize.

This year, the Swedish Academy will not award the Nobel Prize for Literature. Therefore, a group of Swedish cultural figures are going to create their own version of the most prestigious award in the world. This is reported by The Guardian.

The Nobel Prize for Literature was decided to be lifted after charges were brought in May of sexual harassment against Jean-Claude Arnault, Catherine Frostenson's husband. She, in turn, is a writer and a member of the Swedish Academy, which defines the annual winners. In June, Arnault was accused of raping, but he denied it.

The scandal gave rise to a debate about the patriarchal nature of the Academy.

In the Swedish press, clashes between academics that led to a number of resignations and the cancellation of the awarding of the Nobel Prize for Literature of this year.

In response, more than 100 Swedish writers, actors, journalists and other cultural figures have formed the New Academy, which will hold the presentation of an alternative version of the award in the fall on the same days as traditionally awarded to the Nobel Prize.
