Duke Cambridge Prince William made a pilgrimage to the tomb of his great-grandmother, Princess Alice, awarded the title of the righteous man of the world for the salvation of Jews in the Nazi-occupied Greece during the Holocaust, on Thursday, June 28. The British prince also visited the observation deck on the Mount of Olives, overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem.

In addition, on the last day of the visit to Israel and the Palestinian Authority, Prince William also visited the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Western Wall. Princess Alice from Battenberg was the mother-in-law of Queen Elizabeth. She is buried in a crypt in the church of Mary Magdalene on the Mount of Olives, outside the walls of the Old City. Alice died in London in 1969. Before her death, she, being a pious Christian, bequeathed to bury her in Jerusalem next to her aunt, who, like herself, became a nun and founded a monastery, Source: Channel 9.
