A high-ranking Iranian officer was killed in Syria

A senior officer of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC, the elite part of the Iranian Armed Forces) was killed in Syria, the Azerbaijani edition of Trend reports with reference to the portal connected to the IRGC Sepah News.



"Second Brigadier General Shahruh Daipur, one of the commanders and veterans of the Iran-Iraq war, died in Syrian Al-Bukemala during the mission of the adviser," the portal said, without specifying under what circumstances and when the Iranian officer was killed.

Al-Bukemal less than a year ago was considered the last stronghold of the militants of the terrorist group "Islamic State" in Syria, the city was liberated at the end of 2017.

Armed conflict continues in Syria since March 2011. Iran provides military advice to the SAR. Iranian authorities emphasize that they will continue to help Syria, while Damascus needs it.
