The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) intends to develop alternative services for customers to access funds on the bank account.
This was told by the head of the NBU Yakov Smoly in an interview with Mirror of the Week. Ukraine.
"Cards are expensive. Here, both the content of processing, and the issuance of cards. What are the current trends in the world? There are European directives that say that a customer can tell the bank himself which services he wants to give access to his account. Without cards. We are now working on the introduction of these technologies, we have already worked out a concept, "said Smoly.
As a result, customers will be able to remotely access the account and secure transactions using cardless technologies "in 24/7 mode, instantly and guaranteed".
"These solutions. provide that operations are tied directly to a personal bank account, "- said the head of the regulator.
Smoliy specified that it is not a question of using some fundamentally new and expensive technologies, but in view of the completion of already existing banking systems.
"Using remote channels, a mobile phone or a computer, you will initiate a payment from your account via the Internet. It will go from your bank through the NBU electronic payment system to another bank and to the beneficiary's account. Without the use of card processing, "- explained Smoly.
According to him, the new technology does not use processing in general. It relies on the existing system of electronic payments of the NBU and banking operating systems.
"We do not in any way suggest abandoning card technologies that are one of the key drivers of Cashless, but simply intend to develop an alternative infrastructure that would promote functional and price competition, the emergence of new players and services," explained the head of the National Bank.
In addition, in the framework of the modernization of the payment space, the transition to the international standard for the determination of IBAN accounts.
Earlier it was reported that the National Bank of Ukraine proposed to expand the list of payment devices and services for the possibility of cashless payments by users.
According to the NBU, Ukrainians began to pay more often cards on the Internet and shops. According to the results of the first quarter of 2018, the share of non-cash payments by the volume of transactions increased to 44.4% and amounted to 272.6 billion UAH, which is 5.1% more compared to the results of 2017.
