Deputies of the European Parliament called on the Ukrainian authorities to participate in the March of Equality, which will be held in Kiev on June 17. This is stated in an open letter of the European Parliament deputy Rebecca Harms to the President, the Cabinet of Ministers and the Parliament of Ukraine, reports UNN.

"Two years of unprecedented measures" KievPreyda "demonstrated the country's compliance with the rights to peaceful meetings, for which so many people have sacrificed their lives during the Maidan revolution. We call on the Ukrainian authorities to preserve peace this year on June 17 and ensure the maintenance of security for the future of the March of equality, "reads the letter.

In addition, the deputies called on the Ukrainian government to "engage in unfinished work" to ensure equal access to the fundamental rights of LGBT Ukrainians.

"We regret that legislative progress has been suspended: while non-governmental organizations in Ukraine have documented numerous incidents of incitement to hatred and hate crimes in Ukraine in 2017, Ukraine remains one of the last places in Europe, where none of the laws protects LGBT minorities from one of them, "- noted the parliamentarians.

They, in particular, stressed that the recommendations of civil society to the Ministry of Health to improve legal recognition and access to medical services for Ukrainians were not accepted. To date, public LGBT events throughout the country face regular violations and attacks.

"Nobody's rights are not protected until the rights of everyone are protected. Great changes often begin with symbolic gestures. We urge Ukrainian leaders and the government to join their citizens in the March of Equality "KievPreyd" on June 17. Create a story and be in the front row, as Ukrainians march in order to be a strong, versatile and equal democracy in our European family, "the MEPs called.

The letter was signed by 25 members of the European Parliament.
