Austrian Prime Minister Sebastian Kurtz and Deputy Prime Minister Heinz-Christian Strage held a special press conference on Friday morning, where they announced measures to combat political Islam in the country.
According to the announcement, it was decided to close seven Salafi mosques in Austria - two in Upper Austria, one in Carinthia and four in Vienna.
Among the closed mosques are the mosque of the extremist organization "Gray Wolves" and mosques connected with the Turkish-Islamic Union of Cultural and Public Cooperation in Austria.
60 of the 260 Imams in the country are being tested. According to two of them, a decision has already been made to deprive a residence permit and expulsion from the country. Another 40 imams should be made soon. Inspections concern receipt of illegal financing from abroad, as well as propaganda contrary to the Austrian constitution.
