On Thursday, April 12, Israel celebrates the Holocaust Memorial Day ("Yom ha-zikaron la-Shoa vela-gvura"). This is a national day of mourning in memory of the six million Jewish Holocaust victims. Memorial Day is also celebrated in other countries.

This day was introduced by the Knesset in 1951. It falls on 27 Nisan according to the Jewish calendar - the day of the beginning of the Jewish uprising in the Warsaw ghetto, marks the 9th channel of Israel.

Flags spread across the country, memorial ceremonies are held in different cities. At 10 o'clock in the morning across the country, a siren sounded. It lasts two minutes. At this time, the whole country freezes - on roads and highways traffic stops. People stand up and give two minutes of silence to pay tribute to the dead.

With this siren begins the annual memorial ceremony at the Holocaust Museum "Yad Vashem". At 11 o'clock in the Knesset and some other state institutions, the ceremony "Every person has a name" will take place - the names of those killed in the Holocaust will be read on it.

At 14:

30 in the memorial museum at the site of the death camp of Auschwitz, the "March of Life" will begin - in contrast to the "death marches" that the Nazis organized.

The funeral siren sounds in Israel three times a year: in addition to the Day of Catastrophe and Heroism, on the eve of the Day of Remembrance of the soldiers who fell in the wars of Israel and the victims of terror - this year on April 17 at 20:00 (one minute), and also on that day - April 18 at 11:00 (two minutes).
