On how law enforcement agencies request various data from large corporations, we have seen only in films, but now this has become a reality. The police of the city of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, announced its cooperation with Google. The findings, according to investigators, helped to solve crimes more quickly, writes techcrunch. com.

Requests for data began to flow into Google a few years ago. Employees of the company said that they receive orders to disclose data from 75 to 80 thousand users every six months. The company's latest public report on the provision of data, which dates back to January 2017, says that information was disclosed in 65% of all cases.

Police spokesman Raleigh told about precedents of cooperation with Google. In one case, the company showed all the smartphones that were near the scene, but did not disclose the personal data of users. In another case she pointed out all the devices that hit the 68 square kilometer zone at the time of the murder.

The police noted that most modern phones, tablets and laptops have a built-in location sensor that detects the signal thanks to GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile communications.

Therefore, if the device is connected to one of these networks, its location can be easily identified. Law enforcement officials noted that Google provided data not only on smartphones on the Android operating system, but about all devices on which its software using geolocation is installed.

A representative of the company commented on the statement of the police: "We have long established how the executive bodies can request data about users. We carefully process each request and reject all cases that violate confidentiality ".
