New Interior Minister of Germany Horst Seehofer believes that Islam is not part of Germany. This is reported by Deutsche Welle.

"No. Islam is not part of Germany. Germany was formed under the influence of Christianity, part of which are weekend Sundays, church holidays and rituals like Easter, Trinity and Christmas, "- said Seehofer, an interview with Bild, published on Friday, March 16.

According to him, Muslims living in Germany are part of Germany.

"This, however, does not mean that we must abandon our own traditions because of the falsely understood tact," he said, informing him of plans to convene an Islamic conference to hold a discussion on the integration of Muslims in Germany.

Discussion about the place of Islam in German society continues in Germany for several years already.

"German Chancellor Angela Merkel has repeatedly stated that Islam is part of Germany, for example, at a meeting with the Prime Minister of Turkey in Berlin in January 2015. For the first time such an opinion publicly expressed in 2010, the former president of Germany Christian Wulff, "- notes the publication.
