Railway exposition of the Museum of Military Equipment of UMMC is completed by a new locomotive of the Ayr series. 85-ton locomotives were distinguished by increased power and efficiency. They were widely used on the railways of the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War and in the post-war period.

"The steam locomotives of this series are now practically not preserved. Issued in the 30-40-ies of the last century, locomotives have developed their resources and after several major repairs were simply disposed of. Now you can find Er only on pedestals. Meanwhile, for us, its acquisition is more than significant, without it the line of our exhibits of railway equipment used during the Great Patriotic War would be incomplete. This locomotive will "head" the train, which will house the railway artillery units. During the war years, they played an important role in the defense of Leningrad, "- said the director of the museum of military equipment UMMC Alexander Emelyanov.

The new exhibit previously worked on the South Ural railway and until 2017 was stored in the Orsk locomotive depot (Orenburg region). In the Upper Pyshma the steam locomotive arrived "cold run": after examination and preparation of wheel sets, it was attached to an electric locomotive, which brought it to the workshop of repair and restoration of military equipment of JSC "Uralelectromed". Here it was cleaned of rust, replaced rotten or lost parts with new ones, primed and prepared for painting, which will take place when the constant plus temperature in the Urals is established.

As noted by members of the UMMC military equipment museum, the Eyr locomotive is a modernized modification of the Em engine locomotive. The modernization project was developed in 1933 in the Research Institute of Traction Reconstruction. From the previous model was distinguished by an elongated furnace, which ensured a uniform distribution of the coupling weight along the axes. The name Er means "reconstructed". In total in 1934-1936 he. was built about 300 locomotives Ayr. Another 22 were released in 1943-1944. at the Kolomna Locomotive Plant. In 1946, the production of the modification of the Eir locomotives was deployed at the enterprises of Romania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Poland.

Recall, the railway exposition opened in the museum of military equipment UMMC May 9, 2015. The exposition was recreated from the photo of the railway station of Revda. The main types of echelons of that time, headed by genuine locomotives and rolling stock of the 40s of the XX century, are located on five tracks: sanitary and passenger wagons, "wagons", 4-axle and 2-axle platforms, armored cars on the railway track, tank wagon , anti-aircraft platforms and even a real armored train.
