Tallinn honors the memory of the victims of the March 1944 bombing

Recall that during the bombing of Soviet aircraft on March 9, 1944 in Tallinn was dropped about 1725 explosive and 1300 incendiary bombs.

The main target of the bombardment were residential areas. Some 1,549 buildings were destroyed, 3,350 were damaged, accounting for 30 percent of the then housing stock.

More than 20 000 people were left homeless. As a result of the bombing, 554 Estonian citizens were killed, as well as 50 German soldiers and 121 prisoners of war.

Three days before, on March 6, 1944, as a result of the Soviet bombardment, the city of Narva was completely destroyed.
