The Muslims of Germany appealed to the authorities of the country with the call to introduce in the national army the post of military imam.

As the chairman of the Central Council of Muslims of Germany Ayman Matsuek noted in the interview for DW, the Bundeswehr is "a reflection of our society, and therefore such a step would be a strong signal from the point of view of integration policy".

Recall that the need for imams in the army and the possibility of introducing such a post will be studied, German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen said several years ago, but no measures in this direction have so far been taken.

According to data for 2017, Muslims make up 6.1% of the population of Germany. In the various troops of the country serve, in total, about 1,5 thousand Muslim soldiers.
