In the US, Billy Graham died - one of the most influential Baptist preachers, who was a spiritual adviser to many American presidents. This is reported by NBC News.
Graham died around 8 am local time at his home in Monreaga, North Carolina, surrounded by a family. He was 99 years old.
According to the report, during his life he preached to approximately 215 million people in 185 countries around the world. He also regularly appeared on radio, television and the Internet.
He also wrote more than two dozen books, including the 1997 memoir "Just as I Am," which became the best-selling New York Times.
The preacher was repeatedly recognized as one of the most respected moral authorities in the United States.
It is known that in the 50's and 60's Graham supported Martin Luther King, for whom he made pledges after arrests at demonstrations. Graham is a registered member of the Democratic Party. Nevertheless, he was close to such Republican presidents as Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon.
