Corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Vladimir Drinfeld and his co-author Alexander Beilinson received the Israeli prize of the Wolf Foundation for Mathematics. This was reported by the press service of the National Academy of Sciences.

Scientists work at the University of Chicago (USA). They were awarded for a series of innovative works on algebraic geometry, which are "of paramount importance" for theoretical physics, in particular, string theory.

"The result of the fruitful cooperation of the two mathematicians, marked by Wolf's award, is the identification of deep connections between modern abstract mathematics and physics by studying the important algebraic structures working in quantum field theory, which in turn is the theoretical basis of modern elementary particle physics," says in the message.

The results of the study are described in the book "Chiral algebras".

The Wolf Foundation's award is annually celebrated by 5-6 figures in several areas of modern science. At the moment, it has already been awarded to 329 scientists and artists from around the world. Laureates receive awards from the hands of the President of the State of Israel.

The award includes a cash amount of $ 100 thousand.
