The organizers consider the failure of the LGBT movement lecture in Kharkov to be an attack on freedom of speech, freedom of expression and enlightenment activity. The relevant statement of the activist movement circulated today, February 14.
"Such a case is far from the first. Only in the last year and only in Kharkov, representatives of right-wing radical forces somehow or other prevented the holding of events. On May 17, on the Day of Counteraction to Homophobia, force was used, at a briefing that preceded the action for the International Day of Catering Out, threatened and tried not to give an opinion. The action itself (October 11) because of threats we had to be held in isolation behind a tight cordon of police and after threats to mine the territory - thus again under conditions of restriction of the right to visibility and voice, "the statement says..
The movement's activists evaluate the actions of the radical group as another attempt at an attack on freedom of speech and freedom of expression - this time by methods of psychological pressure and physical domination in space.
"We consider the statements of attackers as a language of enmity and incitement to discrimination, which is unacceptable in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine.
We remind you that similar actions were carried out in different cities of Ukraine at events dedicated to the topic of human rights and non-discrimination. We are convinced of the need to continue educational events, actions, peaceful assemblies - to uphold the achievements of Ukrainian society in the field of democracy, human rights, gender equality and overcoming discrimination, "the statement says..
The activists noted that they have the right to vote and space and will hold a number of events this year, in particular the disrupted lecture "LGBT + Movement in Ukraine and the World".
"We urge the leadership of the National Police of Ukraine to pay close attention to new challenges and to ensure the rights of citizens and citizens to freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful assembly. We also urge all public organizations of Kharkiv, activists and activists, our colleagues from other regions of Ukraine, from similar and other spheres of human rights activity to solidarity and mutual support.
Respect for human dignity, awareness of the value of human rights and ensuring their implementation is a new challenge to the Ukrainian social movement - we are sure that in this struggle we must unite wide efforts, "the statement says..
Lecture "LGBT + movement in Ukraine and the world" the organizers are going to hold on February 16 at 19:00 in the media center "Nakipelo" (ul. Freedom, 7/9).
