At least in the United States, where a new system of face recognition for international travelers is already being implemented quickly. Some airlines are already experimenting with this - including Lufthansa, notes focus. de.
Face recognition or biometrics is carried out by photographing travelers at airports using scanners with further comparison of images with photographs in the system. In fact, a traveler can pass a control system without even getting documents. The first attempts to introduce biometrics in the airports of Boston, Atlanta and Los Angeles made such airlines as JetBlue, British Airways and Delta.
Lufthansa, along with US Costums and Border Protection, plans to introduce its own biometrics in Los Angeles as early as late February.
If the test is successful, the airline and US CPB will introduce the procedure in other US airports.
In Germany, biometric scanning is not yet in use, however, at the airports Berlin-Schonefeld, Berlin-Tegel, Dusseldorf, Cologne-Bonn and Frankfurt, the so-called Easypass-System operates to scan a traveler's face during passport control. It is applicable only to citizens of the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, and also requires prior registration.
