40% of Romanians would like to hold a referendum in the country about a possible return of the monarchy. At the same time, 46% of Romanians believe that it was the monarchy that would be the ideal form of government for the country. For the republic (the current form of the state structure of Romania), 40% expressed themselves - this is the data of a telephone survey.

Romania was a monarchy until 1947. The last king of Romania, Mihai I, actively opposed the Nazis during the war and for this he even received the Soviet order "Victory", but in 1947 the communist government of Romania abolished the monarchy and the king was forced to emigrate to Switzerland. In December 2017, Mihai I died in Switzerland.

His heiress Princess Margaret would like to see on the throne 41% of Romanians. Among other possible candidates - the grandson of Mihai I, Prince Nicholas, who, however, grandfather deprived of the rights to the throne for unexplained reasons. Nevertheless, 41% of Romanians are ready to accept him as their monarch, notes EuroPulse. Another possible Romanian king is Prince Charles of Wales (he is also a descendant of Romanian royal persons). For him, "voted" the most people in Romania - 54%.
