The danger of avalanches in the streets of the capital of the province increased. The city administration appealed to the residents with a request to refrain from skiing and hiking through the hills. Specialists follow the avalanche situation. There are 103 avalanche areas on the territory of Kamchatka, 95 of them are in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Of these, 20 large masses of snow can be collected. On dangerous places there are about two hundred apartment houses, private garages, two mountain-skiing bases of motorways and supports of power lines. Avalanche danger lasts until January 26.

The Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky city administration appealed to car owners with a request to limit trips by private transport and change to a public one. On January 24, schools in the city are closed. Heads of enterprises were recommended to declare January 24 as a day off.

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk International Airport operates according to actual weather conditions. Two dozen flights are delayed, eight flights are canceled. Visibility in the airport area does not exceed 100 meters, the northern wind blows with gusts up to 20 m / s.

And from the Pacific Ocean another cyclone is approaching the island, which will host until Saturday. Due to a heavy snowstorm, the movement of commuter trains is suspended. For three days the work of the ferry crossing Vanino-Kholmsk was stopped. The height of the waves reaches 5 meters. On the island are de-energized two villages. Emergency teams work. Movement on some roads from the regional center to the north of the island is closed. Classes in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Korsakov schools are canceled. The wind speed in some places reaches 33 m / s.
