It is noted that for a long time Ukrainians believed that the Epiphany force is especially dangerous on the Epiphany Eve, as it is the last night before the forthcoming water meeting.

Therefore, many baptismal traditions and rituals were conducted with the goal of cleansing the evil spirit and locking the boundaries between the living and the dead. Well, about what dishes are best prepared for Christmas Eve, the readmission URA-Inform decided to tell you.

Kutia On the second holy evening they prepare again for the "hungry", that is, the lean kutya. It is the main dish of the Epiphany Evening. Lenten cake is cooked in the second Holy evening more often from rice, and such ingredients as poppy, honey, walnuts and raisins remain unchanged. If in the Holy Evening before Christmas, the meal begins with kutya, then on the Epiphany evening it must start with a glass of holy water. After water, you can take and after kutya.

Uzvar The traditional drink of the Holy Evening is the monastery. It consists of dry apples, pears, prunes and dried apricots. Prepare the knot very easily: well washed ingredients pour water, bring to a boil and add sugar to taste. However, the Uznar needs 12 hours after boiling to brew, so it should be cooked in advance.

Vareniki Vareniki is cooked in the second Holy evening for the same recipe as before Christmas. Filling for vareniki can choose a variety of: with cabbage, potatoes or peas. And if you want to cook and sweet dumplings - with cherries, currants and various frozen berries, which in winter can be bought in supermarkets.

Borscht Despite the fact that in Ukraine all the housewives are accustomed to cooking borscht on meat broth, in the Holy Evening they cook it on the water, without the addition of meat ingredients. At many such borsch turns out not worse, than meat.

Fish are often cooked by the hostesses and in the second Holy evening. Basically, when cooking the fish bake, so as not to fry in a frying pan in oil.

By the way, the customs of preparing dishes for the Epiphany evening vary depending on the regions of Ukraine. For example, in some regions of the country on January 18 the hostess cooks 12 lean dishes, as on the first Holy Evening, while in others there is an opinion that there must be an odd number of dishes on the table, usually 7 or 9.
