Demonstrators took to the streets after the authorities imposed a curfew and the ban on trading in open tents. Activists beat shop windows, robbed food tents and provoked clashes with law enforcers. As a result, the police used force and tear gas against rioters. Law Enforcement detained 55 demonstrators.
In the country for the third month the cholera epidemic continues to rage, more than 70 people have already died from the disease. Zambian medicine can not cope with the consequences of cholera, and therefore the authorities decided to border public meetings of people in order to prevent the spread of infection.
