In terms of Picard-Wolff, France is ready to move to a renewed norm of etiquette and return to a more neutral - hand shake.

In her letter, the mayor announced that she herself would now avoid kissing at business meetings.

She also admitted that for many months she was specially late for meetings, so as not to kiss her 73 colleagues.

"I've had enough kisses with dozens of people. I hope that my decision will once again pause to reflect on the fact that everyone has the right to decide whether to kiss at the meeting or not - it does not matter whether he or she holds an official position, is at a working meeting or in any other situation, "emphasized Picard-Wolf.

She also said that she always considered strange and wrong the French tradition of kissing people who were hardly familiar. In her view, "la bise" is another form of discrimination against women.

"Men do not kiss at the meeting, unless they are close friends.

This is a trifle, but we are faced with this every day, so this raises the issue of gender equality, "- says the letter of the mayor.

The words of Picard-Wolff provoked a heated public debate. Many women supported the policy and said that they would also like to replace "la bise" with a handshake.
