The dispute between the two countries arose because of the change in the Maas river bed between the city of Vizi and the southwestern Netherlands municipality of Aysden. As a result, the two islands were in fact not controlled by their administration. The Netherlands island physically joined Belgium. Thus, Belgium became the owner of 16 new hectares of land, and the Netherlands occupied only three hectares.

The problem was in the island itself, so it was a source of constant narcotics and prescriptions.

In the case of a crime report, Dutch law enforcement officers could not get there, and Belgian policemen had to request permission to cross the transit line with the Netherlands. From now on, the island returned to the Netherlands.

As reported in "URA-Inform", the European Union recently tightened the rules for controlling foreigners on the border.
