An exhibition of bayonet knives for the Kalashnikov assault rifle was opened at the UMMC Military Equipment Museum. About 20 different versions of this cold steel were placed on the third floor of the museum exhibition center. Here are presented as the very first bayonet knives for the legendary AK-47, as well as modern samples of knives.
"The history of bayonets, and then bayonet knives, counts several centuries. Until the second half of the XX century - it is primarily a melee weapon, and very effective, and sometimes irreplaceable. But with the development of small arms, its purpose is changing. This is very clearly visible on the first modifications of the bayonet knives for AK-47. First of all, it is already more than a knife that can open a tin can or zinc box with cartridges, radically different from the needle bayonet of the same Mosin rifle. In the future, this trend is only increasing, the bayonet-knife is increasingly turning into a universal weapon and even a multifunctional tool, "says Roman Novikov, a member of the UMMC military equipment museum.
The simplest and most obvious ways of alternative use of bayonet knives are provided by their design. For example, inserting a guard in the sheath, you can get a hammer, and by connecting a special hole in the blade with a ledge on the same scabbard - nippers, able to snack a wire, and even under electrical stress. Modern bayonet knives can also be used as a small saw and even as a holder for a torch. As the employees of the UMMC military equipment museum say, a modern bayonet knife, if you disassemble the scabbard into its component parts and attach them to the blade, it can even become an electric boiler.
It should be noted that at present the UMMC Military Equipment Museum is rightly considered to be one of the largest Russian exhibition venues of the military technical profile, along with the museums of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Togliatti and Saratov.
Over 10 years, the museum's collection has collected more than 250 pieces of military equipment, unique collections of Russian awards, military regalia, mass-scale models of cold and firearms, as well as uniforms, equipment, insignia of the Russian armed forces. In November 2015, the museum was commemorated by the Russian Military Historical Society "The Best Museum of Military History", and in October 2016 became the winner of the Government of the Russian Federation prize in the field of tourism.
