The Museum of Military Equipment of UMMC opened an exposition of headdresses of the Russian Imperial and Red Army. The exhibition is on the third floor of the exhibition center, dedicated to the history of uniforms, the award system and small arms.

"This exposition was assembled to broaden the view of our guests about the history of the military suit. Headgear is a kind of card with which you can take a lot of information. For example, belonging to the arms of the troops or even a specific military unit. Here, and all the famous Budyonovs, and capers of the tsarist army, and caps of shock battalions, also called parts of death: in 1917 they swore allegiance to the Provisional Government. Their cockade is a skull pierced by two swords, which symbolized the readiness to die for the ideals of the February Revolution, "said Nikita Krutakov, an employee of the UMMC Military Equipment Museum.

Another part of the exposition is devoted to the history of the steel helmet. One of the most interesting exhibits here is the Zolberg helmet or the M17 steel helmet. This is a combined-arms protective steel helmet of the Russian, and then of the Red Army, which was widely used along with the helmet of Adrian, but was much more reliable in application and simple in production. Unlike the French headdress, the Russian helmet was stamped from solid sheet metal and had no seams, in addition, its thickness was 1.2 mm, in contrast to the 0.7 mm helmet of Adrian, which the soldiers themselves often called "shell".

In addition, the exhibition presents the famous "Hasanka" or "Khalkingolka" - a helmet used by the Red Army in the mid-1930s. As the museum staff note, there is a curious version of the unusual form of a helmet with "protruding ears": it was supposed to lead a direct slashing blow of the cavalry checkers. As far as the steel helmet was consistent with this task, the marshal of the Soviet Union Semyon Mikhailovich Budenny. Another helmet presented in the exposition is the British MkII, for the form often called the "basin". It was also used in the Red Army, for example, in the air defense forces.

It should be noted that at present the UMMC Military Equipment Museum is rightly considered to be one of the largest Russian exhibition venues of the military technical profile, along with the museums of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Togliatti and Saratov.

Over 10 years, the museum's collection has collected more than 250 pieces of military equipment, unique collections of Russian awards, military regalia, mass-scale models of cold and firearms, as well as uniforms, equipment, insignia of the Russian armed forces. In November 2015, the museum was commemorated by the Russian Military Historical Society "The Best Museum of Military History", and in October 2016 became the winner of the Government of the Russian Federation prize in the field of tourism.
