The ban is planned to be introduced by the end of next year. Before a final decision on this issue is taken, which should take place in the middle of next year, at some stations of the country, test "non-smoking" zones.

In general, the test phase in the pilot project for the introduction of a ban on smoking at the railway stations in Switzerland will last 12 months and will take place in three forms. Thus, in the pilot mode there will be completely non-smoking stations (Basel, Nyon and Zurich Stadelhofen), stations with dedicated areas for smokers (Bellinzona) zones and with lounge zones for fans to drag on (Nefshatel).

As the Le Matin edition notes, in parallel with the experiment, the degree of contamination of soil by cigarette stubs will be measured. Representatives of the CFF emphasize that at the moment before making a decision to impose a complete ban on smoking at the train stations in Switzerland is still very far away.

Meanwhile, other European states have already introduced such a ban. Completely "non-smoking" are the stations of France, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain. In Germany and Norway smoking is allowed in special areas on the platform platforms.
