In mid-October, the Pentagon plans to send an aircraft carrier strike group of the US Navy, led by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan, to the east coast of the DPRK for joint exercises with the South Korean Navy. On this, the South Korean media, on condition of anonymity, was informed by the representative of the Ministry of Defense of South Korea.

"We are consulting with the United States on the plan of action of an aircraft carrier strike group led by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan in the East Sea (Sea of ??Japan) around October 15," said the South Korean military.

It is reported that the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) will accompany several warships that are part of its carrier-based strike group, which is based on the Yokosuka naval base in Japan, including a missile cruiser and destroyer equipped with an anti-missile defense system "Aegis", which is capable of shooting down any North Korean ballistic missiles, as well as a shock nuclear submarine equipped with cruise missiles "Tomahawk".

As part of the exercise, the US Navy and South Korean ships will be trained in detecting launches, tracking flight trajectories and intercepting North Korean ballistic missiles..

Earlier, the UN Security Council on September 11 unanimously adopted a resolution on the imposition of new sanctions against the DPRK.

At the same time, the US Treasury on September 26 decided to impose sanctions against eight North Korean banks, as well as 26 individuals who represent them in different countries.

Recall, on September 3, Pyongyang announced the successful testing of the hydrogen bomb.

The order to conduct the test was given by the North Korean leader Kim Jong Ne. The DPRK asserts that the test of the hydrogen warhead did not lead to a leakage of radiation or other negative effects on the environment.

The international community condemned the actions of North Korea. In particular, US President Donald Trump said that, in addition to strengthening sanctions against the DPRK, Washington is considering the possibility of ending trade relations with any country that cooperates with North Korea.
