As noted, the violation occurred during the Russian-Belarusian exercises "West-2017". In particular, the Russian ambassador to Lithuania Alexander Udaltsov was summoned to the ministry, he was given a note on violation of Lithuanian airspace.

So, the incident occurred late on the evening of September 16, when two Il-76 aircraft flying from the main part of Russia to the Kaliningrad region entered the airspace of Lithuania and stayed there for about two minutes.

Let's add that the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the Russian Ambassador the protest and demanded that the responsible departments of Russia provide explanations as soon as possible in connection with this incident and take the necessary measures to ensure that in the future such incidents do not recur.

As previously reported in URA-Inform, British Defense Minister Milek Fallon believes that the joint Russian-Belarussian military exercise "West-2017" is another provocation from the Russian side.
