The announcement came after widespread criticism of school districts across the country for shaming children when they did not have the money to pay for food.

The tactic of disgracing pupils varied from the demonstrative throwing of food in the trash can to the Need Lunch Money stamp on their hands to notify the parents who have to pay.

In this regard, New York guarantees that each of its 1.1 million students will have access to at least two hot dishes each school day, notes forumdaily.

"A free school lunch for all will provide financial support to families and will provide all students with nutritious meals so that they can succeed in school," said Carmen Farian, NYCDE Chancellor.

While every child will have access to a free lunch, parents in New York are still encouraged to complete income forms so that schools can qualify for federal funding and help pay for the program.

The cost of lunch at public schools in New York costs $ 1.75, and it is expected that the innovation will save families about $ 300 a year.

New York joined Boston, Chicago, Detroit and Dallas, offering free meals to schoolchildren. And in New Mexico adopted a law that became the first of its kind. He forbids to humiliate children for the fact that their parents can not pay a school lunch.
