The Supreme Court of Justice in Vienna again detained the alleged leader of an organized criminal group from Russia Aslan Gagiyev. The detention was carried out for the purpose of subsequent extradition to the Russian Federation, a police spokesman told APA on Tuesday, September 12. The correspondent of RIA Novosti reported from the courtroom that the court granted the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.

The court confirmed the decision of the court of first instance rendered in 2015 and rejected the complaint of lawyers Gagiyev. Alleged leader of the organized criminal group, native of Georgia Aslan Gagiyev was detained at one of the train stations in Vienna in mid-January 2015 with the participation of the police special forces Cobra. According to the Austrian newspaper Der Standard, the detainee was found a false identity card and a Bulgarian passport.

In the same year, the court in Vienna found Gagiev's extradition admissible. Subsequently, the Austrian courts repeatedly reviewed the decision on his expulsion. In February 2016, after 13 months in custody, the alleged criminal was released, paying a deposit of 100 thousand euros, which he was then returned.



According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, a criminal organization established and led by Gagiev began operations in 2004 and had more than 46 participants, with more than 40 murders and assassinations. Criminals acted on the territory of Moscow, the Moscow region and North Ossetia. Among the likely victims of the group are police officers and high-ranking officials, including the mayor of Vladikavkaz Vitaly Karaev and the vice-premier of North Ossetia Kazbek Pagiyev.
