The primary explosion in the plant's territory was due to the failure of one of the nine cooling containers containing organic peroxide. This Thursday, August 29, during a press conference, said CEO of Arkema Inc Richard Rennard.

According to him, it is expected that in the other eight containers the substance can degrade, break out and "cause more explosions". At the same time, Renard explained that he does not know when exactly the next explosions will take place.

In turn, Assistant Fire Chief Harris County Bob Roail confirmed that the explosions triggered a flame up to 12 meters in height and black smoke. According to him, this smoke can cause irritation of the eyes, skin and lungs.

Earlier, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that the explosions at the flooded Houston chemical plant did not cause the release of toxins that could endanger the lives of the population. He said that the sheriff's assistants who were hospitalized suffer eye irritation after the explosions.

As reported URA-Inform, June 31 at the plant of industrial chemical producer Arkema in Texas, there were two explosions after flooding due to tropical hurricane Harvey.
