Investigators of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation detained director Kirill Serebrennikov. The creator of the Gogol Center is accused of embezzling 68 million rubles allocated from the state budget for the theatrical project "Platforma". The director will be charged under part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud in a particularly large amount). The issue of choosing a preventive measure will be decided after the charge.
Serebrennikov was detained in St. Petersburg, after which he was taken to Moscow. Now the director is in the TFR, the channel "Rain" reports with reference to the lawyer Dmitry Kharitonov.
The Russian Orthodox Church promptly responded to the arrest of the director. Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin expressed hope in his Facebook that following Serebrennikov, other famous theatergoers.
