Today at a meeting of the Kyiv City Council, the deputies decided to ban the capture of homeless cats in the capital. As the press service of the city council informs, the document solves the problem of dealing with homeless animals and regulating their numbers with humane methods.

It is prohibited to catch homeless cats except for the need for their sterilization, vaccination and / or to adapt to new owners. Representatives of public animal protection organizations must be involved in this process.

Utilities in housing maintenance are required to leave cats accessible to cats, thus contributing to natural deratization (the destruction of rodents in basements).

Zheks and OSBS should ensure compliance with the standards and requirements for the operation of cellars, technical cellars and attics, leaving access to cats. Isolation of cats in closed cellars often led to their death.

Utilities An animal shelter and the Kyiv city hospital of veterinary medicine, according to the decision, should ensure the regulation of the number of animals by sterilization with mandatory vaccination.

The petition on the Kyiv city council's website demanding to recognize street cats as part of the Kyiv city ecosystem, allow them to live freely in cellars, attics and other places of their permanent residence and destroy rodents, has collected more than 10,000 signatures.
