Only 56% of Kyivans consider teachers' work to be an important. While in the west of Ukraine this figure exceeds 80%, in the east - 85%, in the south - 75%, in the center - 74%. These are the results of the GfK study, which was commissioned by the public organization "Osvitoriya".
The survey showed that respect for the teacher directly depends on the size of the settlement. So, in cities where 51 to 100 thousand people live, 92% of teachers say important work, while in cities with more than half a million population - only 66%.
"In large cities, people have more social contacts, more sources of information. Therefore, the social status of the teacher as a key source of knowledge about the world is decreasing, - says Sergei Gorbachev, the director of the Kiev school №148, a member of the board of MES. - With the development of new opportunities, in particular, the Internet, teachers lose their former role. In order to find a new place of honor in society, not only motivation to change, but also resources - time, finances, support of society and the state. All this is superimposed on small salaries, high responsibility and complexity of work ".
Also, the GfK study showed that women throughout the country value teachers more than men - 78% compared to 72%. And elderly people are more than young people: 80% in the group over 60, 74% among 30-39-year-olds and only 67% among young people aged 16-19.
"Most teachers feel that society does not respect their work," said Zoya Lytvyn, head of the public organization Osvitoriya.. - The GfK study proves that they are not mistaken. The situation needs to be changed urgently, because it depends on teachers how competitive, confident, open will grow new generations. To show the Ukrainians how many talented, dedicated professions, innovative teachers in the country, we hold a national prize of Global Teacher Prize Ukraine with a prize fund of 100 thousand hryvnia and urge teachers to be nominated for it. In addition, we help the winner to apply for a Global Teacher Prize award with a prize fund of 1 million dollars. The award, which is often called the "Nobel Prize for Teachers," was founded by Arab billionaire Sanni Varka in 2014 as a confirmation of the importance of the role of a teacher for the development of mankind ".
For several months, "Osvitoriya" has already received more than 6000 applications. Nominate your favorite teacher or go for a prize yourself on the site globalteacherprize. Org. Ua.
Applications are accepted until August 15. The award is supported by the Ministry of Education of Ukraine.

The sample is representative of the population of Ukraine by age, sex, region and size of the settlement. The maximum error is 3.1%.
