Statistics say that more people use social networks as a source of news. And for many in the same way, social networks become a thermometer of mood, writes Pavel Kazarin for the Crimea. Realities.
And this is the problem.
In the era of the birth of the Internet it was believed that it would allow everyone to communicate with all. In reality, everything turned out to be strictly opposite - the network created disparate information gaps that sometimes do not overlap with each other at all. People like what they like, social networks, relying on this, reconfigure your tape, and those with whom you disagree, eventually disappear from your horizon. This is a common problem of the same Facebook.
But in addition to the general problem there are also private.
If the Ukrainian user of social networks decides to see what the Crimeans are writing about, then, most likely, they will decide that all the inhabitants of the peninsula applaud the new reality. Moreover - he will be convinced that by degree of intransigence they overtake even the most inveterate Ukrainophobes in Moscow. And after that the Ukrainian user will broadcast his observations as proof that "Crimea is lost".
But in that and the peculiarity of the peninsula, that measurements on social networks are irrelevant here.
Because all Crimeans today were divided into two groups. One of them is those who managed to get settled after the annexation: went to the civil service, sworn an oath, worked for the Russian media. All these people in the degree of their radicalism will give odds to any Moscow chauvinist. Because they burned bridges - if tomorrow the peninsula is replaced by a flag, then these people will be forced to leave the Crimea. Just not to become involved in criminal cases in Ukraine.
Their aggression and radicalism is just a way of encouraging themselves. They have no illusions about the fate that awaits them in the event of the return of Crimea under the jurisdiction of Ukraine. And because these people in the best traditions of anti-Maidan threaten mass executions even to participants of Moscow anti-corruption protests. They shout about "Washington's handwriting," about "do not dare to rock the boat", about "Soros feedlings" and other conspiracy raving.
They scream - they are heard. In the obschekrymskom media field, these voices are distributed almost exclusively. And because the observer creates a feeling that the entire Crimea is exactly the same as these characters - ready to fight for the king and the new homeland.
False sensation.
Because along with the first group there is a second. Those who, after annexation, "went under the radar". Those who are waiting for the return of Ukraine. Those who did not accept the new reality and try not to come into contact with the state. Those who for a variety of reasons can not afford to travel to the mainland. "You have the right to remain silent: everything that you say will be used against you in court".
You do not see them - they have anonymous accounts without photos. You do not hear them - they comment little and they do not like. But they hear and see you - and carefully catch everything that on the mainland they write about the Crimea, hoping in these words to find what is addressed to them.
They are silent so that the guys from the FSB do not knock at dawn.. They keep silent so as not to fall into the jaws of Russian justice.
They are silent because they remember that the call to violate the territorial integrity of Russia (under which comes a simple statement that the Crimea is Ukraine) can deprive its author of freedom for five years.
Every time you want to generalize Crimea, - remember this.
